Absinthe is a special kind of spirit known for its bold and distinct character and brings a nice little pop to this coastal citrus crescent. Crafted with care, it’s made by infusing neutral alcohol with a mix of herbs and botanicals, including the iconic grand wormwood, anise, and fennel. The result for this particular absinthe is a whopping 66% alcohol and a vibrant, green-hued liquid that will bring a special kind of level to any concoction. Absinthe’s unique taste carries a balance of herbal and licorice-like flavors, creating a complex and aromatic profile. During the production process, the distilled spirit is often infused with additional botanicals to enhance its depth. Known for its rich history and association with artists and writers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, absinthe has made a modern comeback, with distillers like Jettywave bringing a coastal twist to this classic spirit. The magic of absinthe lies not just in its production, but in the experience of sipping a spirit that’s steeped in tradition and creativity.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Blood Oranges:
    • Squeeze enough blood oranges to obtain about 1 cup of fresh juice. Strain the juice to remove any pulp or seeds.
  2. Infuse with Jasmine:
    • In a saucepan, combine the blood orange juice with jasmine flowers. If using dried jasmine, ensure it’s culinary-grade. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat.
  3. Sweeten the Syrup:
    • Gradually add 1 cup of granulated sugar to the simmering mixture. Stir continuously to dissolve the sugar completely. Let it simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  4. Strain and Cool:
    • Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the syrup to remove the jasmine flowers. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
  5. Store:
    • Transfer the blood orange jasmine syrup to a clean, airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Now you have a homemade blood orange jasmine syrup ready to elevate your coastal citrus crescent, other cocktails, mocktails, or even desserts with its delightful citrus and floral notes.
