Sometimes you just need a basic margarita that is still full of flavor and doesn’t break the bank in calories. Insert the skinny grapefruit margarita. It’s close to our classic margarita recipe but sans the agave. It still packs all the flavor you need and would expect from a solid margarita. And there is no sweet and sour mix here. That stuff is what ruins the legacy of margaritas and causes those nasty hangovers.

Making your own infused grapefruit tequila is easy and fun. Here’s a simple set of instructions:

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of tequila
  • 1 or 2 ripe grapefruits
  • Optional: sweetener (e.g., agave syrup)

Instructions:

  1. Gather Ingredients: Ensure you have a bottle of tequila, ripe grapefruits, and any optional sweetener you’d like to add.
  2. Prepare Grapefruits: Wash the grapefruits thoroughly. Cut them into thin slices or wedges, depending on your preference. Remove any seeds.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Open the tequila bottle and carefully add the grapefruit slices or wedges to it. If you prefer a sweeter infusion, you can add a small amount of sweetener at this stage. You can also use multiple mason jars with tight lids to help make room for the grapefruit.
  4. Infusion Time: Securely close the tequila bottle and let the mixture infuse. Place it in a cool, dark place for at least 24 hours. The longer it sits, the more intense the grapefruit flavor will be.
  5. Taste Test: After 24 hours, give the tequila a taste test. If you feel it needs more grapefruit flavor, you can let it infuse for an additional 12-24 hours (or longer). We left ours for up to 30 days and it was intense but still good.
  6. Strain the Tequila: Once you’re satisfied with the infusion, strain the tequila to remove the grapefruit slices. You can use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth for this.
  7. Optional Sweetening: Taste the infused tequila. If you’d like it sweeter, you can add more sweetener to achieve the desired balance. We recommend just a tiny amount of agave. Not the other sweeteners.
  8. Bottle and Chill: Pour the infused tequila back into the original bottle or another airtight container. Seal it and place it in the refrigerator to chill.
  9. Serve and Enjoy: Your homemade grapefruit-infused tequila is now ready to be served! Enjoy it straight, on the rocks, or use it to craft your favorite cocktails.

Remember, the key to a successful infusion is patience. Allow the flavors to mingle and develop over time for the best results. Cheers and happy making the skinny grapefruit margarita.
