Should this be called a “spiced honey pear sour”? Probably, but throw it in a chilled martini glass and nothing else matters. Feeling the extra love for seasonal goodies? While doing some research for pear recipes we came across these interesting facts about pears. Thanks, Google!

Pears with their juicy and succulent flesh, hold a fascinating place in culinary history and horticulture:

  1. Ancient Origins: Pears have a history dating back over 4,000 years. They were a favorite fruit of the ancient Greeks and Romans.
  2. Variety Abounds: There are thousands of pear varieties worldwide, each with a unique flavor, texture, and use. Some popular ones include Bartlett, Anjou, and Bosc.
  3. Harvest Timing: Unlike many fruits, pears are typically harvested before they are fully ripe. They ripen best off the tree, and their sweetness and flavor develop post harvest.
  4. Nutrient-Rich: Pears are rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C, and vitamin K. They’re also low in calories and fat, making them a healthy snack choice.
  5. Artistic Inspiration: Pears have long been a subject in art, from still-life paintings to sculptures. They symbolize a range of themes, including prosperity and temptation.
  6. Versatile Pairing: Pears pair exceptionally well with various foods and drinks, from salads and cheeses to desserts and cocktails, making them a versatile culinary ingredient.
  7. Pear Trees: These trees are hardy and can live for a long time, often producing fruit for decades. They are a symbol of longevity and hope in some cultures.

Quick Notes on honey pear simple syrup

Making a honey-based simple syrup takes a lot of honey. We get it, if that’s not the route you want to take then you can always just substitute with sugar. But it does make this spiced honey pear martini pretty solid! Just be sure to combine equal parts sugar and water to have a well balanced syrup. If you want to get down with even more spice (which we love to do quite often) then you can try making your honey simple syrup with Mikes Hot Honey. It is so wildly good in syrups, bread, pancakes, and even pizza! Yes, we said pizza.
