Sometimes you just want a pick-me-up that isn’t a Red Bull, right? Step into the world of caffeinated bliss with the legendary espresso martini! No one judges you for ordering this drink at the bar at night so why not make it at home. This magical elixir combines the boldness of espresso with the smoothness of vodka (you can even substitute a good tequila blanco for vodka), resulting in a cocktail that will have you buzzing with excitement. It’s like a shot of energy and indulgence all in one glass! Be sure to check out the suggested pairing at the bottom!

how to make an espresso martini

  • 1 shot of espresso
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • ½ oz chocolate liquor
  • ½ oz coffee liquor
  • chocolate bar of choice, microplaned  for garnish
  • coffee beans, for garnish

To make the simple syrup, combine equal parts of sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved and let cool.

Add all ingredients with ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake until chilled, then strain and pour into a martini glass. Shave the chocolate bar over the glass and garnish with coffee beans.

For our espresso martini, we usually alternate between using vodka and tequila. A good blanco or even a reposado goes wonderfully with the flavors of coffee. Try your favorite liquor in this recipe and see what you like best. But we might advice not using gin with this coffee cocktail. But hey, it’s your coloring book and you can color the way you want!

For our espresso, we use our lovely Nespresso CitiZ Original Espresso Machine by De’Longhi. We absolutely love this machine and it has been making us espresso for 6+ years now! Explore our favorite pods from their variety pack.
