Don’t pass up these quick pickled onions, because believe it or not, they can make or break (by not adding them) a dish. Pickling is such an easy technique that completely changes the flavor and texture of an ingredient. One of our favorite things to pickle are onions. Because who doesn’t love them on salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken, and bruschetta. The list can go on and on. A jar of pickled onions is always in our fridge. And next time you make smoked salmon crostinis, try adding pickled onions!

how to make quick pickled onions

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1 large red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 C white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 C red wine vinegar
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1/2 T black peppercorn
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 C water
  • 1 T agave

In a mixing bowl combine water, white wine vinegar, red wine vinegar, garlic cloves, peppercorn, bay leaves, and agave. Gently stir until thoroughly combined.

In a mason jar add onions and wet mixture. Place in the fridge for a minimum of two hours. Add to sandwiches, salads, or even your morning avocado toast. Buon Appetito!

You can pickle anything! All you need is a vegetable of choice and some good mason jars. You can even seal pickle jars without a canner. Just implement the hot water bath technique and it will create a suction that will seal your jars tight.
