how to make a grapefruit honey spritz

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz rosemary grapefruit simple syrup
  • 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • soda water, to top
  • rosemary, for garnish
  • grapefruit slice, for garnish

To make the simple syrup, combine one cup water, 2 – 3 sprigs of rosemary, and grapefruit rind. (Be sure to only get the rind and not the white inner layer). Bring to a boil, and boil for two minutes. Take off heat, and stir in ½ cup sugar and ½ cup honey. Set aside and let cool. Strain out solids with tea strainer.

In a cocktail shaker combine vodka, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, ice and shake until chilled. Pour drink into final glass with cocktail strainer. Garnish with rosemary sprig and grapefruit wheel.

  • To make the rosemary grapefruit honey simple syrup, you can always downsize how much you make. Just combine equal parts sweetener (honey or sugar) and water in a saucepan. If you downsize, you can use less of grapefruit and rosemary.
  • Our favorite soda water brand, BY FAR, is Spindrift. It’s made with real fruit juice and no funny business. Just look at the difference in ingredients and you will see for yourself!
  • Why half honey and half sugar? Well, honey is pretty expensive! You can find some ethically harvested brands on Amazon that are relatively affordable, but we tend to save our honey for coffee and tea!
  • For your grapefruit rind, make sure to get the least amount of the white inner layer. This makes the syrup bitter. You should only get a thin outer layer of grapefruit so the aroma and flavor come through nicely.
  • Use freshly squeezed grapefruit juice for the best flavor.
  • Garnish the cocktail with a rosemary sprig and a twist of grapefruit peel for an eye catching presentation.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your preference by adding more or less simple syrup.
